WPL 100th Year Community Project – Mural Mosaic

Thank you to all that had participated in this amazing community project. Stay tuned for more information about the unveiling!

This year, the Welland Public Library will begin celebrating its 100th anniversary! To commemorate this milestone, we’ve commissioned an artists’ group from Edmonton called Mural Mosaics to design a mural representing the past, present, and future of the library and our great community, an opportunity made possible by the Ontario Seniors Community Grant Program.

The mosaic will be made up of 600 canvas tiles – each one a unique image – that will ultimately be joined together to form a single image 8 ft. by 12 ft. mural. The mural will be installed at the Main Branch library upon completion.

We are reaching out to community members and organizations to lend a hand with the painting. This collaborative art project provides a unique way to connect with one another and have a little fun – even from a distance. It’s also a great opportunity for residents of all ages to work together and share their stories, whether virtually, by phone, or in-person for those who live in the same household. All painting will take place in February.

Art kits that include all required materials and simple instructions will be provided free-of-charge to those interested. No artistic experience is needed. In February, the library will host optional instructional online workshops (dates forthcoming) for people who would like to paint as a group.

Tiles are limited to one per person (while supplies last). Contactless pick up or delivery times will be arranged in the coming weeks.
